I am Becky Andersen and I am so pleased you are learning about Hazardous Materials Consulting, Inc. I am the owner and senior consultant for HMC and excel as an environmental and safety compliance leader with 25+ years of experience. I am skilled in hazardous waste management and compliance, emergency response, EPA negotiations, and chemical risk minimization. I have been fortunate to have assisted with many industrial, governmental, and academic projects and worked with numerous wonderful colleagues.
I led a school chemical cleanout program in Iowa and in other states, conducting more than 350 cleanouts at high schools, community colleges and universities. Through this Rehab the Lab Program, several partners and I trained hundreds of administrators, teachers and facility personnel in school chemical safety and risk minimization. Those efforts resulted in the disposal of more than 450,000 lbs. of unwanted, toxic, unstable, highly regulated, hazardous chemicals across the country and provided our team with an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges that schools face.

Throughout the past 15 years, I have focused on training, coaching, and assisting the business community and government agencies in the assessment and mitigation of risk, ongoing compliance strategies and coordination of efforts with emergency responders. My focus encompasses not just chemical risk, but practical and beneficial guidance to keep employees safe while accomplishing business goals. I am fortunate to have a large network of resources that I can reach out to and coordinate efforts with.
I am well versed in EPA hazardous waste regulations, have negotiated many penalty reductions for clients and appreciate working with dedicated, invested EHS professionals. I am a North American Hazardous Materials Managers (NAHMMA) and Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certified trainer, have received the Iowa Governor’s Environmental Excellence program award and honorable mention from EPA’s Pollution Prevention for efforts to continue to improve school chemical safety.
